Problem:
I can’t connect to a 2023 Ford F-150 PowerBoost with the Topdon Phoenix Smart scanner. I get the message in the photo. My subscription has expired but that shouldn’t stop me from connecting to this vehicle.
Error:
Failed to verify the validity of the user’s online function permission.
Solution:
Ford uses secure gateway technology on many 2018-up vehicles. Just like with autoauth, your scan tool subscription must be valid and active in order to be authenticated. The difference with Ford is that the scan tool manufacturer (Topdon) does not pass an additional cost on to the tool user at this time. Additionally the authentication is seamless to the tool user, which is why most people are completely unaware that the secure gateway technology exists on ford.
