Question:
Topdon Phoenix Elite vs Phoenix smart.
They both do pretty much the same things, but the smart has a couple more protocols.
If the elite is capable of programming and coding, then what’s the point of J2534?? Why do we need 2534 when other machines without pass-thru can still programme/code?
Here is the clue.
These two products are actually positioned a bit differently. Phoenix Smart is more programming-focused: it supports programming for vehicles under 15 brands, and it can also be expanded to cover EV diagnostics and HD truck diagnostics.
On the other hand, J2534 is mainly used when you need to connect to a PC and operate through OEM factory software. This is especially important for certain programming, coding, or calibration procedures that manufacturers only allow via their own software platforms.
So while some standalone tools can handle programming or coding directly, J2534 protocol gives you deeper OEM-level access and flexibility in specific scenarios.
